#1 Made In America – 2020 Ford Ranger

2020 Ranger Usa

The Ford Ranger ranks #1 Made in America!

Ever wonder which cars or trucks have the most American made parts, labor and assembly in the United States of America? The American-Made Index has given shoppers interested in supporting the U.S. economy a list of the most American-made vehicles and currently the 2020 Ford Ranger ranks #1 on the vehicle list for cars and trucks made in the USA.

The report is based on several factors — where a car is assembled, its domestic-parts content, where its engines and transmissions come from and how many U.S. factory workers its parent automaker directly employs relative to vehicle sales. The American-Made Index, or AMI, is an independent annual list that ranks the new vehicles that contribute most to the U.S. economy based on criteria ranging from U.S. factory jobs and manufacturing plants to parts sourcing.

How Does the Ranking Work?

The American-Made Index considers five main factors in its ranking:

  • The final vehicle assembly location
  • The origin of parts in the vehicle as reported for the American Automobile Labeling Act
  • The origin country (or countries) for its engines
  • The origin country (or countries) for transmissions
  • The number of Americans its parent automaker employs at the factory level

As of December 2019 Ford is investing approximately $750 million and adding 2,700 new direct jobs at its Ford Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne, Michigan, during the next three years and is the primary location where the Ford Ranger and new Ford Bronco models are built. Ford will install new equipment to support production of the all-new Ford Bronco and Ford Ranger as well as create a new modification center at the Wayne location.

Employees at Ford’s Ranger modification center in Wayne will complete Ford’s first autonomous vehicles starting in 2021, including installing the vehicles’ unique self-driving technology and unique purpose-built interiors. This will be the first center of its kind for Ford and will drive synergies with the company’s existing AV research functions in Dearborn and Detroit. At that same location, Bronco and Ranger will be modified for customers.

The majority of Ford’s vehicles sold to the North American market are put together in the U.S., with a few plants in Mexico and Canada. Here’s a list showing where each plant is located and which models they assemble:

  • Wayne, MI: Ford Ranger, Ford Bronco, Ford Focus, Ford C-Max
